Years of being at the bottom of the rankings. Nearly a decade since making it to playoffs. A season prior with zero wins. Week after week filled with bitter disappointment.
But this year it was different.
Four straight wins right out of the gate. Student sections packed with cheering fans decked out in each week’s theme. Nearly making it to playoffs against Prosper High Scool. The season ended with an overal 6-5 record and fifth in the district, which is the most wins in a season since 2020-2021.
“I played throughout the entire season injured,” senior team captain center guard Ryan Moses, #63, said. “I played every game hurt, so a lot of hurdles to jump over. I definitely persevered throughout the season, and that strengthened who I was.”
That energy flooded the team, and players said finding that strength lef to several high points in the season.
“For me, the biggest highlight was beating Plano on our own field,” senior defensive line back Joshua Padek, #18, said. “Plano is our rival, so it was a big game to win for our district, and for our season.”
Although the season didn’t end with a playoff run, head coach and athletic coordinator Tyler Soukup said the players have set the team in the right direction.
“If I had to pick a highlight, I’m going to say beating Plano East and Plano is always really important to us. It’s important to our kids, it’s a big deal for school pride, but it’s also two district wins, so those were two great memories.
