During the summer, the tennis team lost two of its eight courts due to construction; a new facility with twelve courts will be built in their place, and the existing courts are scheduled for removal.
This new facility will offer players new opportunities to develop their skills and help set a new foundation for the tennis program in the years to come.
“You’re giving an ultra-nice facility to one of the top teams in the state of Texas,” coach Morgen Walker said. “We are going to be able to possibly increase our numbers because of increased court space. We will have more people wanting to come play us here because of the facility we are going to be having.”
A player on the team expressed her excitement about the number and the proximity of the new facility to the school.
“I’m most excited about the number of courts,” JV player junior Raaya Sirochinsky said. “It’s going to be further from the main building, and we are going to have less distractions with football running by, soccer, and band, particularly.”
The new facility will give players on the team new luxuries that they didn’t have previously.
“I heard there’s a new sound system,” tennis player senior Benjamin Qu said. “And there’s sprinklers on the courts when it gets too hot.”
