Between the UIL All-State student recording and rehearsals, the orchestra’s chamber rounded out a busy October with a performance at Renner Middle School from Wednesday, Oct. 29.
While students take orchestra as a class, students involved in the organization said it goes beyond the average classroom.
“It’s still a class, but it’s a class with a community,” senior, Alexander Yu said. “You’re not going to have as much opportunities outside of school to get together to create music, to practice together and to learn new things.”
During the performance, students played in front of a younger audience at Renner Middle School; serving as a role model towards people looking forward to orchestra in their future.
“These are players that have just started this year in sixth grade, and this is their first public performance,” Orchestra Director Ryan Ross said. “You know, they’re playing ‘Twinkle Twinkle, Little Star’ and ‘Mary Had a Little Lamb’; and then we performed at the end of that concert, so the idea is to show the students and their families kind of like where they’re at. It’s supposed to inspire them, and show the possibilities if they stick to it and work through it”.
Orchestra Students had All-State performances last Saturday, Oct. 25, and students had to perform for weeks to try to achieve All-State honors, practicing nonstop.
After you get the results, I only have three weeks to prepare for all state, but, I would say everything’s sufficient because I know what I’m playing,” senior Timothy Chen said. “There’s no special concert or anything, so it’s just really focusing and dialing in on that.”
