Over the years, society has been taken over by many aspects of the green movement. Previously girls have been damaging their skin by using cosmetics with harmful toxins in them just to be beautiful. Numerous beauty companies have altered their products to be organic and healthy for the customer’s skin.
“I use organic makeup because I would rather keep my skin healthy than expose it to the harms of regular makeup,” junior Leah Cherner said.
Non-organic makeup may seem like it makes a person radiant and beautiful, but the harmful ingredients damage the skin in the end. Non-organic makeup contains oil, talc, perfume, dyes, alcohol and other chemicals that can be dangerous to the skin. Many people that use non-organic cosmetics run into problems with allergic reactions that are caused from the chemicals. Oils like rosemary are found to be harmful to epileptics and many other chemicals such as Benzoates have been proven to aggravate asthma. The chemicals also age the skin over time and cause a greater amount of wrinkles to be present. By switching to organic products a person is saving their health and skin.
“Ever since I started using Bare Escentuals, people have started noticing how my skin looks healthier and natural,” junior Jordan Powell said.
There are many pros to using an organic brand of makeup, like protecting the skin from harmful illnesses such as skin cancer. Bare Escentuals and other organic brands have gotten together with The Skin Cancer Foundation to fight and reduce the causes of skin cancer. The products do not only protect skin, but also give a natural glow. The soft minerals are mixed together to give off a smooth, beautiful and healthy looking appearance.
“I think it is cool how all my favorite brands offer natural products,” junior Zoe Fitzgerald said.
Most people believe that when something says it is organic it will be pricey, but mainstream makeup lines offer organic makeup at affordable prices. Supermarkets that offer brands such as CoverGirl, Revlon and L’Oreal have become part of the green movement, offering an abundant amount of affordable organic cosmetics. It is important for girls to care for their skin and keep it healthy. The green movement of beauty products has greatly impacted the cosmetic industry and the faces that fill this society.
“I love how beautiful it makes my skin look,” Powell said.
