On April 18, the final 10 episodes of “Pretty Little Liars” began airing on the channel Freeform (formerly known as ABC Family), starting with the episode titled “Playtime.” The series finale, “Till Death Do Us Part,” is set to air on June 20, marking over seven years since the show first started airing. Club Penguin Island:
After 12 years of being online, Club Penguin was closed on March 28. Its replacement, Club Penguin Island, was released one day after. The new game differs from the original in that it is only available on mobile platforms as an application, and all graphics are three-dimensional instead of the classic two-dimensional format. The game was met with negative reviews.
Twin Peaks:
Going along with the recent trend of reviving 90s television shows, “Twin Peaks” is set to make its debut in the 21st century on May 21 on the Showtime channel. The original series focused on the mystery behind teenager Laura Palmer’s murder, and the supernatural peculiarities that followed. Most of the original cast will return, along with some newcomers such as Michael Cera and Amanda Seyfried. Instead of being a full reboot, the revival will continue the storyline of the original show.
Yahoo and Aol Merger:
Get ready for a new “oath” to take. Verizon announced in April that after acquiring both America Online (AOL) and Yahoo, the two will merge in the summer and become a completely new online entity called “Oath.” Not much of the deal is known at the current time, so it is unclear what will happen to classic @yahoo.com or @aol.com email addresses. Keep an eye out on Plano West BluePrints for further developments.
Injustice 2:
Fans of DC Comics rejoice: four years after the release of the award-winning game “Injustice: Gods Among Us,” Warner Bros. released a sequel, “Injustice 2,” on May 16. The game, keeping the same mechanics as the original, features updated graphics and new characters from DC Comics’ 83 year history, including Darkseid and Supergirl. Building on the plot of the previous game and numerous tie-in comics, “Injustice 2” returns to the alternate universe where Superman becomes a global dictator and kills the world’s heroes.
Tony Romo:
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is ending his time on the field, concluding his 12 year career with the team. The announcement was made on April 4, and Romo was officially released at his request soon after. The former quarterback was quickly scooped up by the Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) as a color commentator. Dedicated fans took to social media to wish him a farewell, commemorating many highlights from his football career. Dak Prescott will continue as the quarterback for the team.
Harry Styles:
Although the well-known pop band One Direction has been on a hiatus for over a year, band member Harry Styles has emerged from the break as a solo artist. Styles’ new single “Sign of the Times” was released on April 7 and quickly climbed the number one spot on the Billboard music charts. The song is a drastic change from the previous music Styles’ was making with One Direction. With its slow tempo and powerful lyrics, “Sign of the Times” has been compared to songs from The Beatles and Oasis. While the popularity of the song continues to grow, only time will tell if Styles’ solo career will become a success.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales:
“Dead Men Tell No Tales” is the fifth movie in the Pirates of the Caribbean film series and is scheduled to debut on May 26. The movie follows the infamous pirate Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) and his quest to find the legendary trident of Poseidon. The main villain is a new character named Captain Armando Salazar (Javier Bardem), who is a ghost trying to eliminate Sparrow and all pirates. With the two racing to find this powerful treasure, the rumored last film in the series will be one to remember.
Gorillaz:
After six years spent under the radar, Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett’s virtual band, Gorillaz, is back with a new album titled “Humanz.” The new music was released on April 28, containing many songs that feature other popular artists, such as D.R.A.M. and Pusha T. While the band has not made any detailed commitments to a full tour, on June 10 they will make their first appearance since 2010 to a live stage in the United Kingdom. The album is somewhat different from their old music, but their staple electronic hip-hop vibes are still apparent throughout each song.

Fans can now stream this album on Apple Music, Spotify and Youtube.
