Moana

Disney’s newest princess, Moana, made her debut on Nov. 23. Introducing Auli’i Cravalho alongside Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, the film opened to critical acclaim and added more diversity to the Disney Princess lineup.

 

The Beyoncé CMA Awards

Beyoncé shook the country music community to its core when she performed the song “Daddy Lessons” from her latest album “Lemonade” at the 2016 Country Music Awards with the Dixie Chicks. Her performance was met with controversy from country music fans who believed that the singer could not cross over into the genre.

 

Hamilton Mixtape

Adding on to the success of the Broadway phenomenon “Hamilton,” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda released a new album on Dec. 2 entitled the “Hamilton Mixtape,” which contains well known artists such as Sia and Kelly Clarkson covering songs from the musical along with demo tracks that did not make the finalized show.

 

Lady Gaga Joanne

After three years radio silence, Lady Gaga released her fifth studio album, “Joanne,” on Oct. 21. The album, named after her aunt, marked a new era for the singer, shifting away from heavy electronic pop to a more soft rock sound. It debuted at number one on the “Billboard” 200.

 

Closure of Vine

Vine, a social network site popular amongst teenagers where users uploaded six second video clips, was shut down on Oct. 27. Although the service was discontinued, all of the videos uploaded onto the website remain accessible for archival purposes. Users took to Twitter to express their discontent and reminisce about old Vine clips that had gained popularity throughout the years.

 

New President:

On Nov. 9, Republican nominee Donald Trump was elected as the 45th President of the United States of America, defeating the Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton.

 

That’s So Raven Reboot

Raven Symoné will star in an upcoming spinoff of the Disney series “That’s So Raven,” set to launch production in 2017. The reboot will feature Raven as a single mother of two kids, one of which will carry on her mother’s iconic precognitive talent.

 

Pokémon Sun & Moon

Nintendo has launched a new video game to its fanbase: Pokémon Sun and Moon. Released on Nov. 18, the game features the Pokémon trainers on their journey to “catch them all” in the fictitious Alola region. While Sun and Moon are different, the plots are essentially the same, with the main difference being the legendary Pokémon that is captured at the end of the game. Both revolve around defeating Team Skull, the main antagonists.

 

Series of Unfortunate Events

On Jan. 13, 2017, Netflix will release season one of “A Series of Unfortunate Events.” According to Neil Patrick Harris, who will be leading the show as the terrifying Count Olaf, the season will contain material from the first two books. The show is highly anticipated by fans of the original book series due to the supposed darker tone and corrections from the 2004 movie.

 

Young Justice Season 3

Young Justice, an animated show based on DC Comics superheroes is back for another season. The show was cancelled after 2013 for unclear reasons. However, after years of fan petitions, the beloved show has been renewed, and production has already begun.

 

Star Wars: Rogue One

Filling the gap between episodes three and four, the news Star Wars movie, “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” follows the story of the infamous Death Star before it is built by Darth Vader and the Empire. A new group of heroes attempts to steal the Empire’s blueprints of the new habitable weapon, which is later seen in episode four. Be sure to catch it in theatres starting Dec. 16.

 

Childish Gambino

Donald Glover, also known as Childish Gambino, released a brand new album on Dec. 2, titled “Awaken My Love.” The album consists of 12 contemporary songs that fans dubbed as having a “creepy tribal vibe.”
