A Luke’s Coffee Cup

The hit comedy show Gilmore Girls ended in 2007 exactly where it all began with mother and daughter Lorelai and Rory drinking coffee together at the show’s famous diner “Luke’s.” The show revolved around arguably the most iconic mother daughter duo to ever grace TV screens across America. However, during the seventh and final season, beloved creator Amy Sherman-Palladino left due to contract disputes, and fans complained that the show was simply not the same without her. Now, as if to answer fans’ prayers, Sherman-Palladino is back to revitalize the epochal show.

The four episode event starts Nov. 25, and picks up in present day. The 90 minute episodes will be designed each after a season of the year, hence the name “Year in the Life.” With not a whole lot yet revealed about the content, fans have been bubbling with thousands of questions. It has been theorized that there will be a pregnancy and a ton of the show’s famed wit. Creator Amy Sherman-Palladino has confirmed that Rory will be at a personal crossroads. There will be several new faces in Stars Hollow and the love interests will make it in the revival. However, one beloved face will not be returning. Edward “Ed” Herrmann, the actor who portrayed Richard Gilmore, passed away after the final season. Sherman-Palladino has assured fans that Richard’s death will be prominent in the revival, claiming that the show “couldn’t just say, ‘Oh, Richard died peacefully in his sleep, and now we’re going to go to the cherry-picking festival.’” The unexpected death has touched the entire cast and crew. Sherman-Palladino has also admitted that his death is very painful, and that she “still chokes up when [she] talks about it, because [she] wasn’t prepared for it.”

In response to all the hype, coffee houses around the country hosted a one-day pop-up of the show’s famous diner, Luke’s. Fans indulged in a hot cup of Luke’s coffee, and some in the Beverly Hills area were lucky enough to meet Scott Patterson, who plays whole-hearted, yet cynical Luke on the show. Luke was not the only member of Stars Hollow to serve up some coffee. Yanic Truesdale, who plays frenchman Michel, and Aris Alvarado, who portrays Caesar, the chef at the diner, both made an appearance at coffee shops in California. Hardcore fans even dressed in flannels and backwards baseball caps.

No matter if you have watched the show religiously or have not seen it at all, the revival will be an event that no one will not want to miss. So mark your calendars and brew your coffee because the Gilmore Girls are back in town.
