The Best of Both Worlds: School by Day, Work by Night

Many students participate in activities outside of school, ranging from sports to being in a band. However, some people may not realize that having a job is an extracurricular activity as well. It can be difficult to balance both work and school, but these students make sure that their education comes first.

Q: How often do you work?
A: About once a week. It’s a very flexible schedule, so I can change it whenever I want.
Q: What is the most difficult part of your job?
A: Dealing with customers can be difficult sometimes, especially if you don’t get them the right shoe size. They’ll yell at you.
Q: How do you balance your job with school?
A: We make our schedules two weeks in advance, so I put everything in my agenda and then tell [my bosses] the days I can work and the days I can’t. It can be hard to manage both sometimes, but normally I can just call in and say I can’t work and find someone else to take my shift.
Q: What is your favorite part of your job?
A: The people that I work with. Everyone is so caring and nice, and they always help me when I don’t know what to do.
