The Stranger, The Better
September 28, 2016
Netflix’s new hit show “Stranger Things” is a dimension-twisting sci-fi thriller that has become the talk of the summer. Earning a title as one of the best original releases for the website in the past year, it brought in a third place ranking right next to “Orange Is The New Black.” It comes packed with everything from eerie alternative worlds to coughed up slugs. So why are you not tuning in?
“Stranger Things” has been said to have reshaped the concept of sci-fi television, but this show has not earned its hype just by having a well talked about script and an even more talked about cast. It has also made a name for itself by having a soundtrack that has become just as memorable as Gaten Matarazzo’s dimples. The official release of the show’s soundtrack is almost as demanded as the second season. A group of unpopular electronic musicians who go by the name “S U R V I V E” have made a name for themselves as the creators of Stranger Things’ eerie yet iconic intro and have taken over the job of putting together the late 70’s themed soundtrack.
The cast, of new faced kids who all have their own hidden talents, have spent the last few months appearing on late-night shows such as “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” where Stranger Things’ own Millie Bobbi Brown, who stars as Eleven, has shown off her singing and rapping talents as well as her admirable humor. Brown has a respectable following on her YouTube channel where she posts videos of her performing cover songs by Adele, Amy Winehouse and more. Brown is not the only cast member with a knack for singing though, Matarazzo (Dustin on the show) and Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas) have both starred on Broadway in musicals such as “Les Misérables” and “The Lion King.” Of course, the shows own Finn Wolfhard (Mike) has brought on a new wave of admiration and heartthrob when he posted a video of him performing a guitar cover of the well-known Nirvana favorite “Lithium.” Later on, Wolfhard responded to the positive feedback by promising a full cover on his YouTube page soon. Viewers are all basically counting the minutes.
Viewers have wasted no time demanding a second season, resulting in a trailer that has already been released and circulated off of the show’s official Twitter. Fans have become antsy and have begun to take their favorite scenes from the show, turning them into entertaining teasers such as one for a romantic comedy and many other examples. Fans are all in the same boat though, waiting patiently until they are graced with the second season and another chance to see everyone’s favorite cast of friends together in action again. They are all left with one question: What about Barb?
