Going From Orange to Blonde, Frank Ocean is Back
September 28, 2016
A four year break in-between albums for Frank Ocean sets him up for a monumental return. The newly released visual album Endless and the studio album Blonde was the end of the wait of Ocean’s fans.
Ocean left his fans in 2012 with the artistic album Channel ORANGE. This album was the take off for his career with a lead single, “Thinking Bout You,” and other popular singles like “Super Rich Kids.”
However, once this album was released, Ocean only appeared on a few features and never created a second album of his own. After four years of fake release dates, his fans have high hopes for the next artwork from Ocean.
Fake release dates first teased Ocean’s fan base in April 2015. It was announced by Ocean’s record company, Boys Don’t Cry, on the blogging website Tumblr that his newest album would come out July 2015. The fans spoke out about how long they had waited for this album and expressed how exciting this news was.
Once July 2015 came, fans patiently waited and nothing was released. Jokes on social media of how Ocean’s album release date was a total hoax started trending. These jokes continued for an entire year when Ocean and Boys Don’t Cry claimed they would be releasing his album during this year’s month of July.
Once again, the entire month of July passed and there was still no album.
Aug. 18, late at night, a visual album from Ocean and Boys Don’t Cry was finally released on Apple Music. A forty-five minute video full of constant new music and a visual illusion of three Oceans working on a wood project was labeled Endless.
This release was big enough to satisfy his fans, but there was another project promised. This project was a completely different studio album that was released about a day later on Aug. 20. This album was named Blonde and had 17 songs with impressive features.
Blonde was the number one album on Billboard Top 200 as of Sept. 10. That means Ocean passed Drake’s album Views that was released earlier this year and has dominated the Top 200 list for best albums since February.
Although the wait for Ocean’s return is over, there is now a wait for his tour dates to release. Ocean has not performed since July 2014 and it is not likely that he will perform in the year of 2016. Ocean’s fans can only hope and wait, once again.
