What is your favorite part about teaching?
Encouraging students to think outside boundaries and helping them understand what career path they want to consider when in college.
Do you have any advice for students?
Always put in 100% effort in anything you do. Do your best to keep learning even when you are done with school. Try to further yourself, whether it’s studying for job-specific certifications or making time for your hobbies.
What is your favorite thing about the subject you teach?
It’s one of those subjects where if you look at a complicated problem, you may not know what to do at first. After putting in time, hard work and completely understanding it, it is the best feeling in the world.
If you were not a teacher, what job would you have?
I would own a coffee shop that also sells nice cakes and baked goods.
What is an interesting fact about yourself?
I am Armenian, born and raised in Lebanon, married in Cyprus, lived in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia for three years and then moved to Plano 22 years ago. I speak, read and write Armenian, Arabic, English and French.
What is a funny school memory you have?
My daughter, Patil, used to be in my Calculus AB class, and she never took me seriously.
“Mrs. Tabanian is one of the most caring, invested, and committed teachers at Plano West. There’s absolutely no way that I could have made it through calculus or West without her constant support and advice. I’m definitely going to miss her the most next year.” – Caroline Korry, senior
“I love how Mrs. Tabanian is always diligent and organized during her lessons and explanations. Her vast knowledge and kind, approachable persona allow me to understand even the hardest math concepts and succeed during tests.” – Fatimah Sunez, junior
“If I had any other calculus teacher I would be failing.” – Alistair Disraeli, senior
