What is your favorite part about teaching?

I love to see how students grow and mature throughout the year as they expand their academic knowledge, but I especially enjoy the daily interaction with unique, at times eccentric, personalities.

What is something that inspires you?

I am inspired when I see how students are willing to help each other understand difficult concepts, are compassionate toward each other and selflessly contribute their time through volunteering for those in need.

Do you have any advice for students?

At the beginning of the year, I showed my classes a commencement speech. My favorite advice is from that speech: “Don’t be a dreamer. Be a do-er.”

What is your favorite part about the subject you teach?

I absolutely love reading literature and sharing that experience with students. However, the best part of teaching is when I see students have that moment of understanding for a new or difficult concept or for how to improve their writing.

If you were not a teacher, what job would you have or want to have?

If I wasn’t a teacher, I would love to be a professional student. I love to learn.

What is your favorite memory?

Last year, Ms. Elliott and I had several priceless moments with students. One fun memory was an impromptu demonstration of the proper way to put the toilet paper on the roll. There just happened to be a stick in her room as well as a roll of toilet paper – don’t ask.

“Mrs. Gomez has a way of enchanting students when she speaks. She is very passionate about books, and it comes across as she teaches. With the enthusiasm in her eyes, students can’t help but get excited about reading.” -Madison Arora, senior

“There are so many things I like about Mrs. Gomez: the way she talks, her sense of humor and how she loves reading and books, the fact that she makes her classes not boring. She is what i would envision as the perfect English teacher.” -Saarah Rahman, senior

“Mrs. Gomez is an enthusiastic teacher who puts her all into everything she does. I really enjoy being in her class.” -Idan Pisek, senior
