Low Power Mode and Multi-Task: iOS 9
November 12, 2015
As our world develops more rapidly, so does its technology. The iOS 9 software was released to Apple users on Sept. 16. The foundation and apps of the iPhone have improved immensely with this new update. Maps and Notes have had a few updates along with other various features.
Among the many new additions to iOS 9, photos, maps and web links can now be added to notes pages. You can also draw a sketch using their finger to put next to the notes. Meanwhile, the Maps app now has transit and nearby views. With transit view, public transit information with routes and directions are now available. Transit view allows you to see departure information based on the public transportation used. The nearby view has many subcategories to choose from. For example, if you typed food into the search bar, restaurants, grocery stores and dessert places will show up on the screen. You can use the nearby view for shopping in that area, fun activities to do and many more.
A new app that Apple has given its users is News. The News app has articles pulled from various sources for people to read. The more you use News, the app will start to collect articles based on your interests.
The iOS 9 has longer battery life due to the low power mode. This mode slows down the iPhone’s activity, which results in elongating the phone’s battery life. In addition, Apple introduced a new font that at first was not very noticeable to some users. The previous font was named Neue Helvetica but is now San Francisco.
The new feature that Apple created for iPads is multitasking. Slide over, split view and picture to picture are some of the different ways to multitask. Slide over lets you open a second app without completely leaving the first one. Split view has two apps open at the same time but split right in the middle of the screen. Picture to picture allows you to FaceTime and look at something else without the call being paused. Now, the video screen moves down to the corner and continues the conversation. Siri has also been further updated by being able to search a wider range of topics. For example, you can ask Siri to find pictures taken from a previous year. Keep an eye out for what Apple has in store for its users in the upcoming future.
