This One Is For Yu

There are many individuals who do their best to excel in everything they are a part of in this school. The valedictorians are immensely successful and have achieved things that many would not expect an average teenager to do. This includes the valedictorian of 2014-2015, Phillip Yu. Yu is currently enrolled in Harvard University.

“I’m currently planning on majoring in some STEM-related field,” Yu said, “possibly computer science chemistry, or some other interdisciplinary area.”

Yu has achieved so much in his young life. He has received numerous honors and awards, such as being a Research Science Institute Scholar, National Merit Scholar, Co-author of publication in the Journal of Neuroscience and much more.

“Being valedictorian isn’t at all different from being a ‘regular’ student,” Yu said.

Yu has enjoyed almost every aspect of his college life; especially the classes and the people. At Harvard he is taking four classes, most of which he says, will require an intensive workload.

“Classes in college move much faster than any AP course at West,” Yu said. “At times, I miss the handholding that the teachers at West did for you.”

Although college is tough, it is an amazing educational opportunity as well as a good opportunity to meet new people.

“Almost everyone here manages to be simultaneously passionate, interesting and incredibly fun,” Yu said.

Yu has enjoyed every moment since he graduated high school. However, West is filled with details that make it a little hard to leave.

“Treasure your time at West while it lasts,” Yu said. “It’s a great school with great teachers, great classes, and great people.”
