Written and directed by Oscar winner Hayao Miyazaki, Kiki’s Delivery Service is a beloved story about a resourceful young witch who begins an apprenticeship with her chatty black cat. The film follows Kiki as she starts a delivery service with her broom and power of flight, only to lose her ability to fly and communicate with her cat. The film is ideal for Studio Ghibli film lovers and those interested in watching a young girl find her way in the world.

Make Me Smile (A Tribute to Vintage Chicago)

Baseball: America’s Presidents, America’s Pastime

Baseball’s relationship with the American presidents is just about as old as the game itself. Baseball has aided America through troubled times with George W. Bush attending a game after 9/11, Herbert Hoover attending the World Series in order to bring a sense of calm during the Great Depression and Harry S. Truman using the sport to bring a sense of normalcy back to the country by pitching the first pitch at a game just six days after Japan’s surrender during World War II. The exhibit will be using baseball-related documents and artifacts from its presidential archives, as well as from other libraries.
State Fair of Texas

The 2015 theme for the fair is “Passport to Texas.” The fair is an annual event and special activities will include concerts on the Mainstage as well as two college football games. Daily activities include the Starlight Parade at 7 p.m. and the Illumination Sensation lights and fireworks show at 8 p.m.

The Cottonwood Arts Festival is a semi-annual event that features works from the nation’s top visual artists. Cottonwood Art Festival is a juried show with approximately 1,400 artists submitted their work for consideration this year. However, there is more to the festival than art. Bands surround every corner performing rock, country, jazz, blues, swing and folk music. Also swing by to enjoy some delicious treats like lemonade and funnel cakes. Do not forget to gaze at the sculptures and home decor.
