For many, singing is a hobby. For juniors Ariana and Alyssa Braddom, singing is a passion. It can be nerve wracking to post videos online for the public to view, but that is how the Braddom twins showcase their talent. Together, they have posted many covers of pop songs on Vine and YouTube. In addition, they have also hosted live streams on YouNow.

“I’ve been singing for forever,” Ariana said. “I officially started taking lessons when I was eight, and I’ve always had a passion for it.”

The pair have been interested in music for a very long time, although volleyball was preventing Alyssa from fully participating in singing. Recently, however, the sisters have been focusing more on their own individual efforts.

“Right now, we’re doing some solo stuff,” Alyssa said. “I just started taking songwriting lessons so I’m working on my first single.”

In the past, Ariana has also ventured into singing by herself.

“I’ve written around 20 official songs,” Ariana said. “Two are out on iTunes right now, called This Can’t Be Love and Paper Cuts & Scars.”

The process of creating a song requires a lot of time and effort as well. It involves brainstorming for writing, editing and rewriting, and later recording many times.

Paper Cuts & Scars was in production for about a month,” Ariana said. “We had to figure out how we wanted it to sound. Writing it also took about a month or so.”

The twins have also performed at multiple locations around the metroplex, including a RoughRiders game, giving them exposure and publicity.

“If everything goes well, I’d like to make singing into a career,” Ariana said. “I’ll definitely stick to it.”

Like most siblings, the Braddom twins have had their fair share of fights. However, through their love for music, they have grown closer and learned how to better understand each other.

“Our relationship is a lot better than it used to be,” Alyssa said. “Since we’re both pursuing music, we have to get along more.”

Ariana and Alyssa are both supported by their close friend, senior Paniz Farokhnia.

“I think they’re very talented and very passionate about their music,” Farokhnia said. “They’ll randomly start singing and doing harmonies together.”

Not even the time of day prevents the twins from singing. They are able to manage their time without getting behind in their practice.

“I was at their house one night, at like three in the morning, when out of nowhere I heard someone singing in the bathroom,” Farokhnia said. “It was just Alyssa, working on her vocal scales.”

The sisters’ love for music is apparent to all. They are passionate about their talents and are looking forward to a bright future together.

“You can see it whenever you’re with them,” Farokhnia said. “Music will always be a part of them.”
