Google Classroom Cons
September 30, 2015
Schools are constantly experimenting new ways to incorporate technology in their classrooms. Many teachers have started incorporating the program Google Classroom in their classes. Many students dislike this program because of the complications that it brings. Google Classroom makes it harder to access and turn in assignments on time.
During the first week, it was difficult for the students to access their class accounts. By organizing it in a way where students depended on Google Classrooms, many students fell behind on their class work. The website has a habit of crashing or having other technical issues when students attempt to submit their work. Google Classroom adds unnecessary tasks to the students’ to-do list.
Teachers jumped into the idea of using Google Classroom and discarded the fact that not all students have access to the Internet. In class, teachers will have kids pull up their accounts, and when students cannot access the program, they struggle with completing the work. Teachers expect students to use Google Classroom to learn the lessons that should be taught in class, when they should be explaining new content in class. They use this as an excuse to not tell students their assignments ahead of time, expecting that they will constantly check their accounts to ensure they know when everything is due.
Google Classroom can be used to keep class assignments organized and help students stay updated when used correctly. On the other hand, when the program creates complications and teachers rely solely on the site; students can be set back and confused on what assignments are due. Teachers should provide kids with other options of turning in assignments to help them stay on top of their work and not fall behind due to the numerous complications from Google Classroom.
