Wolves Participate in Summer Internships

During the summer, many teenagers hope to be selected for an internship. The position they choose could be based on their future occupation, experiencing a work environment or having an activity to keep themselves busy.

Senior year helps students debate what steps they may want to take in the future. Getting an internship can reassure or change their mind about their years to come.

“Doing this internship helped me decide what career path I wanted to go down because I had always known that I wanted to do fashion,” senior Avril Payne said.

Payne went to San Francisco, California to observe what it would be like to experience a fashion marketing position. She participated in numerous workshops which discussed different subjects of the fashion marketing world.

“I took classes for sketching, draping, party planning, and merchandise/marketing,” Payne said. “Each class was taught by a professor at the Fashion Institute of Design School so it was a great insight to what it would be like.”

Not only did she get to learn the different parts of fashion marketing but she also got to experience what it would be like outside of the workshops.

“We got to go out onto the streets of San Diego to do trend spotting and shop around the city,” Payne said.

Senior Avery Wasson also got to encounter an internship that was related to her future plans. Wasson participated at the Pastoral Counseling Center. The center provides a variety of workshops for young adults to experience a counseling and psychiatric occupation.

“At my internship, I got to sit in on many counseling sessions,” Wasson said. “I got to interact with patients and organize papers.”

Wasson would like to be a therapist after college. Attending this internship at the Pastoral Counseling Center allowed Wasson to get an inside look into the working world of a professional therapist.

“I had so much fun and met so many new people,” Wasson said. “I was able to see what being a therapist would be like.”

Senior Benny Rubanov interned at a company named Delta Dallas, a staffing firm.

“I worked as an intern for Delta Dallas and got to learn every part of their process,” Rubanov said. “The process included meeting candidates, sitting on interviews and visit client meetings.”

Delta Dallas is a company that provides leadership and staffing expertise through recruitment programs. Rubanov would like to be going into the field of business after high school.

“The program tried to link each person up with their expressed interests,” Rubanov said. “I was able to get an introduction into the field I wanted to soon be in.”

For many, applying to an internship can be stressful and seem like a chore, but for Rubanov, it was simple.

“I found out about the program by applying to the Plano Mayor’s Internships Programs,” Rubanov said. “It was awesome and so worth it.”
