Make Your Senior Year a Success
Tips for surviving your final run
With junior year coming to a close, many students are experiencing a mixture of emotions: Anxiety. Excitement. Stress. Joy. Sadness. Anticipation. Regardless of what you may be feeling, it is of the utmost importance that you keep your eyes set on the future but still make sure to have tons of fun along the way. This guide will help students make the most out of their senior year.
- Stay organized. Remember to stay on top of everything. Keep a planner and mark down any important dates. It is crucial to remember deadlines for college applications and the dates for any standardized tests that you still have to take. Senior year can be very hectic at times, so it is important to have a physical copy of notes and reminders in case you forget something.
- Create your own definition of success. Everyone needs to aim for something as by defining success for yourself, it will be easier to achieve your goals. You do not have to take as many advanced classes as you possibly can to be successful. Instead, try enrolling in classes you are truly passionate about. It is important to remember that you, as a student, cannot be successful if you do not make use of the knowledge that you have cultivated over the years. Define your goals and stick with a plan to reach them.
- Take a fun elective. With a flurry of new incoming experiences about to surround you with your plans after high school, your senior year is the perfect opportunity to prepare yourself for the future by trying something new. Taking a fun elective, such as photojournalism or floral design, is a simple way to make the most out of your senior year. You will meet some new people and gain new experiences by engaging in a curriculum that is not just typical academics. It will also help you relax by focusing on something other than the inevitable stress that comes with the uncertainty of the future.
- Fight senioritis. Although it may sound rather silly, senioritis is no joke and it is crucial to stay focused for the entire duration of your senior year. You must remember that colleges are still keeping track of your grades and have the ability to retract your acceptance, even if you have already decided on attending their college. Remember to set realistic goals and maintain your work ethic.
- Step back and take a breath. Remember to make the most out of every day, and do not get overwhelmed. Your senior year may be very chaotic with exams, testing, college applications and stress about the future. However, if you stay organized and keep up with everything, there is absolutely no reason that you cannot take a break and have fun every so often. Take a moment to reminisce and slow down. Take in everything going on around you, and remember to live in the now. You will have a lot on your plate, but keep your chin up and breathe. It will all be okay.
