Teacher Feature: Sally Meek

    1. How long have you been teaching?

    28 years

    1. Why did you choose now to retire?

I’m 65 years old, and I think at this age it is time to pack it in.

    1. Why did you choose to teach Economics for 28 years?

It’s the way the world works and how everything operates around you. When students come into my class, they may have some idea of economics, but generally it’s a whole different world for them. Even if they’ve heard of some of the terms, they don’t know yet how to analyze it and interpret it. I love teaching that new material.

    1. What will you miss the most about teaching?

The students. The job of teaching is almost like being a parent. It’s so fun because we get to know you and watch you guys grow. I’ll miss all of you.

    1. What are your plans after you retire?

I have no idea what I’m going to do. All I know is that I’m going to Disney World with my grandson this summer.

    1. Is there anything else that you’d like to add?

It’s been a great experience. I’ve loved everything about teaching, this school, and the school district has been fantastic. I’m going to miss it all very much.

“Ms. Meek made a subject I was dreading very enjoyable. In fact, I changed my schedule to take more economic classes just to have her again. She really cares about her students. She bought me a donut once. It was amazing. Meek is the best, and it’s sad that she is leaving.” – Megan Fass, 12

“Meek always takes the time to engage with her students—not only in teaching them economics, but also in taking a genuine interest in their lives. She is one of those rare teachers who not only teaches you about her subject, she teaches you about life and how to live it well.” – Kriti Gaur, 12

“She explains things really well, and I like the way she teaches. I hope she enjoys herself in retirement and has a good time.” – Hanna Mollhoff, 12
