Sony Has Rights to New Movie

Fans of Marvel’s Spider-Man grew very excited on Feb. 9 when Marvel announced that the beloved character would be making an appearance in an upcoming Marvel movie. The movie is speculated to be either Avengers: Age of Ultron or Captain America: Civil War. Until recently, only Sony Pictures had the right to use Spider-Man in movies, as seen in the Spider-Man Trilogy directed by Sam Raimi and The Amazing Spider-Man and its sequel directed by Marc Webb. However, Sony and Marvel struck up a mutually beneficial deal that is essentially free. Sony will still have strict control over the character rights of Spider-Man and his origin movies, but Marvel can have Spider-Man appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Then after Sony produces the next Spider-Man movie, Marvel and Sony will work together on a creative direction for the character. Tobey Maguire played Peter Parker in the Trilogy and Andrew Garfield plays Parker in the recent rendition of the Spider-Man storyline. However, there is no news that he will reprise the role, much to the disappointment of many fans. There is now speculation of who will play Spider-Man next. Either way, the MCU is about to get a lot more exciting with its newest addition.
