Online Exclusive: Boys Basketball Comes From Behind to Win State

With 2.2 seconds left in the Class 6A Championship game, senior D.J. Hogg let fly the most important shot in the history of Plano West Basketball. West went into the final game of the playoffs with plenty of momentum, having won all of their previous 17 games. However, Houston Clear Lake was no ordinary opponent. Trailing by 6 points heading into the fourth quarter, it was clear that it would take something special for West to claw their way in front. Through the first three quarters, Hogg had only scored six points. In the fourth quarter, he caught fire for 16 points, including his game-winning buzzer beater.

“I just kept shooting, man,” Hogg told Dallas Morning News after the game. “I knew I could hit them. All my teammates said to keep shooting. All my teammates believed in me, so they helped me believe in myself.”

Hogg ended the game with 22 points, with fellow seniors Tyler Davis and Mickey Mitchell contributing 14 and 9 respectively. This state championship was the first ever for Plano West boys basketball.
