White House Wednesday

Students implement patriotic trend

First it was Throwback Thursday. Then came Man Crush Monday. Now, White House Wednesday has become an increasingly growing trend, snowballing its way through the student body. Created by seniors Ryan Lozano and Jordan Coff, White House Wednesday involves decking out in Americana every Wednesday to pledge flag-waving allegiance to the nation.

“Initially, it was something that Jordan and I had thought about because we are both spirited,” Lozano said. “We both thought it would be a cool thing to do since it’s our senior year—just as something to remember and to do it with a bunch of our friends is more fun than anything else.”

White House Wednesday made its debut on the first Wednesday of the school year and consisted of only three vehement participants: Lozano, Coff and their friend, senior Brady Ismond. What started off as meager only grew.

“The first time we took a picture, we posted it on Twitter and Instagram,” Coff said. “The word got out that way and we got more people to participate.”

Every Wednesday after 6th period, by the fountain outside of B building, those who partake in donning American colors that day come together to take a picture to post on social media in order to amplify the word on the school’s latest trend. So far, the duo has been successful in spreading their patriotic mini-movement.

“This was the first White House Wednesday,” Coff said. “Our friend Brady was coincidentally wearing a shirt with red, white and blue on it so we asked him to join in.”

“This specific White House Wednesday was special because it was during the week of homecoming,” senior Shruthi Prabhakar said. “On that day, White House Wednesday had one of the biggest groups of participants than it ever had before, and it all became official on that day.”

“My best friend was wearing an American flag shirt,” senior Amanda Hayden said, “and we thought it would be a good idea to pledge allegiance to Jordan.”
