You Will Remember the Alamo

North Texas may already have plenty of eat-in movie theatre chains, but the eight-month-old Alamo Drafthouse in Richardson will blow your favorite Studio Movie Grill out of the water. Founded in Austin, the Alamo Drafthouse chain is famous around the country for the different genres of movies shown, the in-house bar and food service and strict no phone usage policy.

The full menu features a range of choices from burgers, bottomless classic movie popcorn and milkshakes to prosciutto and goat cheese sandwiches, tofu wraps and cheese plates. Over half of the menu is the same in each Alamo Drafthouse across the country, but the seasonal food and bar menus change each month to correspond with the movie premiere occurring.

The best part of the food process at Alamo? You do not need to interrupt the movie to speak to your server. Each person has ordering cards, and when you need something, simply place the card on the table in front of your seat. If you have special dietary requirements, arrive 20 to 30 minutes early to speak with your server before the show begins.

Another element that sets the Alamo Drafthouse apart from any other movie theatre is the variation in movie genres. Of its seven theatres in the venue, an indie film may be playing next to an old classic, which may be playing next to a sing-along, which may be playing next to an opening blockbuster. Experience something new every time you visit.

If you are looking for a more fun and interactive movie experience, check out their quote-alongs and sing-alongs. Complete with a ball bouncing on the subtitles in time with the dialogue in the movie and well-known songs, these quote-alongs and sing-alongs are an Alamo staple. Props are provided, shouting is encouraged and fun flows freely through the theatre, allowing the audience to relive the best parts of their favorite movies.

Patrons who join the Alamo Drafthouse’s Victory Club email list are rewarded with information in advance of what will be happening each week and free giveaways. Anyone can join for free by signing up on their website.

The box office opens 30 minutes before the scheduled show times and the Alamo Drafthouse recommends their customers arrive early so they can order drinks and appetizers, watch the vintage cartoons and shorts that play before each film begins and get comfortable for the upcoming show.
