Harry Potter Makes a Comeback

After seven books, eight movies, a theme park and billions of dollars in success, the Harry Potter world is coming back after its last movie premiere in 2011. The mastermind behind the franchise, J.K. Rowling, is in the process of producing another movie with Warner Brothers to satisfy Harry Potter fans yet again.

“I am excited that J.K. Rowling is adding another story to the Harry Potter world,” senior Chris Nguyen said. “But I am worried that it will not live up to par with the previous series and disappoint me.”

The movie will focus mainly on the fictitious author of the Hogwarts textbook Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Newt Scamander. It will be an extension of the series and will take place in New York City in the 1920s. The screenplay will steer away from the character Harry Potter himself, with the hope that the new movie will give their devoted audience a better perspective on what the wizarding world actually is.

“I’m actually not sure how it’ll be,” junior Alexa Baker said. “I think it’ll give me a lot more insight into the wizarding world.”

Through the ages, Harry Potter has touched many lives. Looking past the spells and adventures and school, the Harry Potter books are not just books to some—they are a friend, a companion to go on adventures with.

Harry Potter has changed my life, as cheesy as that sounds,” Baker said. “It’s been a part of my life since I was six and I was a mega fan ever since. It has a really great story and message.”

Though the series holds a special place in millions of hearts, many are quite skeptical about the execution of the new movie itself and feel that it will not live up to its previous installments.

“The Harry Potter series was so built up over the years with the original novels, then the movies,” junior Emily Wang said. “Meanwhile, I’ve never heard of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them until now.”

But there are even more faithful fans who will love the new movie regardless of how good or bad it is.

“The series was just so spectacular, it’ll be hard to live up to,” Baker said. “A lot of the time, these things don’t really work out, but I’m sure I’ll love it nonetheless.”
