For many Americans, gun control has been the hot topic of discussion and both sides have split ends trying to defend what they believe should be done about firearms in the United States. 2012 had the highest recorded guns sales in history. After the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School and even before Aurora, Congress has had the topic of gun control come up repeatedly. But with the last year of mass shooting, activists have been trying to limit what guns can be sold to the general public. The Second Amendment gives U.S. citizens the right to bear arms, though when it was written, muskets were still being used. That means that citizens should be allowed to defend themselves with the guns of their choice.
Frankly, this is not going to help U.S. citizens. The limit to the number of bullets in a magazine or raising prices for ammunition is only going to further the frustration of gun enthusiasts. The innocent people will be the ones left unprotected if Congress passes gun control laws.
Gun violence is the 15th leading cause of death for Americans, worse than that of suicide. The guns are only tools in these murders. Firearms are not the only effective way of causing harm to an individual; a knife could kill as easily as a gun. It is the idiots who carry the guns, not the guns themselves. Do not let a few crazies take away the constitutional rights of the citizens.
Even the National Rifle Association (NRA) would agree that some more security and background checks for those buying guns should be implemented, but telling the public that they cannot have or purchase a semi-automatic is violating their Second Amendment rights as American citizens. The background checks should be done, yes, but limiting the usage of which firearms an individual can have or how much that firearm is allowed to hold is just going to cause uproar and riots.
The Second Amendment is in danger of becoming obsolete if Congress passes gun control laws or an executive order. The citizens of the United States of America should not be told what they can and cannot purchase to protect their home and family. Government should not be sticking their hands in our pies, taking out what they do not want in it. The Bill of Rights should not be threatened just because someone has the ultimate temper tantrum.
