They are a new and unique way to eat that is traveling all over the world. They are revolutionizing the eating society they are food trucks and they are taking everyone by surprise.
“I first heard about food trucks on a TV show that I watched,” junior Maddie Sweet said.
Food trucks are popping up all around the world. They were being created to give people a new way to eat in a new environment. Food trucks are mainly being used outside at gatherings where there are a lot of people. In L.A there are many unique types of food trucks, including the Louks Greek Gourmet to Go. It serves up Greek cuisine including kabobs and lamb chops that people enjoy buying.
“I was watching the Food Network when I heard about food trucks, and I was interested in trying them,” junior Abigail Mitchell said.
Some of the first food trucks appeared in the United States when vendors in New York and California started using them. Soon after, every state started getting the idea that it was a popular, easy way to sell food, so they decided to use them to make more money and get publicity.
“I do believe food trucks will stay popular in the near future,” Sweet said. “They are rather convenient.”
There are many events in the United States that are incorporating the food trucks in their schedules. Countries like India, Canada and Australia adopted the idea of food trucks and are trying to use them in the same way as people in the United States do. In Plano, many companies are creating food trucks. In the Dallas Arts District there are food trucks in two locations every day. The boom of the food trucks in 2010 was a result of the contest held in New York called the Vendy Cup and People’s Choice award. The award was won by truck owner Freddy in New York.
“Food trucks, I believe, were created to make selling certain foods more appealing,” Sweet said.
It could be considered a convenience for people who are down in the Art District during work. They can simply go and get lunch. Food Trucks by Plano is one of the many food truck companies around the DFW area.
Food trucks can also get sued if they do something that is illegal. People in Chicago sued a food truck company because they did not follow the rule of being a certain distance away from a restaurant and the installations were not up to par.
“I love that food trucks can move around and bring the food to the people instead of people going to get the food,” Sweet said.
If people are hungry and they do not feel like eating at home or buying expensive food from a restaurant, then food trucks is a good option for them. They have almost every type of food and dessert that you can think of.
“Food trucks will be popular in the future because many people have heard of them and like to go to them,” Mitchell said.
Many people are starting to turn towards them when they do not know what to have for a meal. One challenging part about managing a food truck business, is obtaining a permit to be able to use the truck. In some cities it may not be that hard, but in big cities like New York it is rare to get one without running into trouble.
“I think they were created in the first place because they were being modeled by street vendors to attract more people,” Mitchell said.
Food trucks have just become popular in the past couple of years, receiving a top ranking in the National Restaurant Association’s “What’s Hot in 2011” survey. According to website Small Business on NBC, a good way to think about starting a successful food truck is just go with gut feelings and it will eventually get the vendor on the right track.
“Food trucks were created because it’s an expansion of a profitable business,” senior Larry Yap said.
