With summer coming to a close and the weather cooling down, it is time to start thinking about changing your wardrobe. Mirroring last summer, styles from the past are coming back. Taking a peek into the upcoming fall fashion trends, we see many new experiments with color, especially subdued colors. Patent leather fabrics, big geometric prints and the 1950’s old Hollywood style will be all the rage and the biggest influence this year.
The old Hollywood style is adding to the fashion world by creating perfectly polished, elegant from head-to-toe looks. Pairing together hugging pencil skirts and elegant suit-like aristocratic coats with short sleeves and broad shoulders is a perfect way to embrace this new style. On another end of the scale, you could choose a rebellious style with the new military trend by wearing fitting military jackets to add sharpness and feminine silhouette dresses embroidered with brass buttons, as seen on known fashionista Victoria Beckham.
If bold prints are more your style, geometric prints are going to be big this season. Mosaic compositions, blurring circles, colored lines and squares add creativity and an artistic touch to an outfit, especially in bold, complimenting colors. But if you want to opt out of shapes try floral. It is always in and is a great transition print from summer to fall.
“A lot of people wear animal prints,” junior Shilpa Raju said. “Cheetah and zebra prints are popular.”
Leather is the next object of interest this upcoming season. It is chic, stylish and is becoming a regular in the fashion world. This year leather is going black. Leather skirts, dresses, coats, trousers, boots and accessories have been walked down the runway once again. You can either go all leather or add leather accents to stay on point with the latest trend.
Lastly, color is big every season, and this fall, blue and wine shades are the leading colors in the subdued color palette of fall. These colors will add mood and sass to any outfit. Try to add lace inserts as done by Stella McCartney to add flare to the color.
“Different color jeans are probably going to be big again,” junior Brooke Reinhardt said. “Bright colors especially.”
Whatever you choose to wear this season, whether it is bold or subdued, military or elegant, feminine or masculine, make sure you feel good and confident about yourself. It’s not what a person wears, but how the person wears it.
“I normally wear cardigans and sweater in the fall,” junior Hayleigh Lima said. “I go with the flow when it comes to fashion trends.”
