Having been in operation for 14 years, it is not hard to see why West is bursting with traditions, celebrated by both the students and the faculty.
“It is important for everyone to know and to understand our traditions and beliefs,” Principal Kathy King said.
Some well-known traditions include Blue-Out days, State send-offs for clubs and teams, and the call, “Wolf pack!”
“Blue-Out days are great, and we should definitely have more Stay Days,” senior Bethany Deaton said.
Many of the current traditions are based off of the “Wolf Credo,” in the book Wisdom of Wolves by Twyman Towery, which has become a symbol for the school.
“This is more than just a book,” King said. “It is leadership lesson for campus leaders, especially me.”
It is because of this philosophy that the traditions have had such an impact.
“Traditions bring a sense of camaraderie, and gives people a chance to be a part of something bigger,” senior class president Dan Rosenfield said.
Many of the current traditions have been in place since the opening of the school and have become trademarks, but there are students who hope to introduce new traditions to carry on the legacy of the school.
“I would like to have more senior privileges,” Rosenfield said. “I think it would be nice to reward ourselves for our 12 years of work. I would also like to bring in a community service day to give back to a community that has done so much for us.”
Some students simply want more involvement in the school and its activities.
“Everyone should go to the games against Plano East and Plano Senior, and just show their support and pride in their school,” Deaton said.
One of the current traditions is Blue-Out days where everyone in the school wears blue to support a big sports game or event. Many students think this does not happen enough.
“I want to see a stabilization of school spirit, and unity, because to me this school is an awesome community,” junior DeAngelo Garner said. “The more we support each other and the school, the better we all become.”
