He first caught the public’s attention as the love interest in She’s the Man, opposite Amanda Bynes. Although he was pretty much unknown up until that point, he proved to be a surprisingly beneficial costar to what could easily have been a silly film due to Bynes’ previous experience.
“Channing Tatum is my all-time favorite actor,” junior Kaile Knight said. “Everything he does is perfect.”
He next revealed a rougher side when he played the underprivileged bad boy given a second chance in Step Up, wowing fans with his dancing and acting. He then went on to star in more films like GI Joe, Dear John and The Vow, showing his ability to play sentimental characters and deeper roles. Even in his minor roles, such as the “mister” in The Dilemma, he was still equally as charming. Channing Tatum captured the hearts of millions.
“I think his best role was in Dear John,” senior Maddie Anzovino said. “That movie was so touching and emotional.”
Born in Alabama, the 32 year old first entered the industry as a fashion model. The exposure he experienced encouraged him to venture into the unstable franchise of acting. On the set of Step Up, he met his current wife, Jenna Dewan, whom he married in July of 2009. The couple has been happily married since, despite Tatum’s risqué roles in other movies.
“I really like Channing Tatum,” senior Channing Tramel said. “But then again, we have the same name, so I kind of have to.”
Although overall the movies he has starred in receive mixed reviews, the general consensus is that Tatum is memorable to the female audience. Comedy lovers were excited to see his performance across Jonah Hill in 21 Jump Street.
“Jonah Hill is hilarious and Channing Tatum is so hot,” junior Hannah Flansburg said. “That movie was the best of both worlds.”
His upcoming performance is much anticipated in the sequel GI Joe: Retaliation and Magic Mike, both premiering June 29. After the well-received reaction to the first GI Joe, the sequel is expected to produce a frenzy in the box office.
“I’m a little worried that the more serious roles he plays, the less I will like him,” junior Mason Morgan said. “I love comedies, and he makes the joke.”
