The class of 2013 has elected Dan Rosenfield as its new senior class president. He has many goals and ideas with the objective of making the school a better place, including the implementation of cushioned toilets, encouraging participation and support of clubs, and establishing connections with local non-profits, as well as revamping school spirit.
“When students join clubs and extracurricular activities, they have an additional incentive to stay active and be a leader in school,” junior Dan Rosenfield said. “Plano West has a lot of diversity and has people with all kinds of interests; by working with club presidents, we can find new ways to raise awareness of these clubs so that students with all interests can find a place with those who share the same likes and activities.”
While colleges already come to campus to visit and share information, connections with local businesses and non-profit organizations would enable them to share opportunities with students as well.
“In order to improve the school image, we need to encourage local entities to recruit West Wolves for jobs and internships as well as come to campus and educate students on different vocational opportunities that are open to them,” Rosenfield said.
Some Wolves have school spirit, but as a whole, students need to work on improving school spirit.
“I want to keep pep rallies exciting and have ‘random acts of spirit’, especially on game days,” Rosenfield said, “where the ‘Blue Nation’ can really come together as one and show our rivals. Remember, intimidation is key. We must look tough.”
Beyond performing as the new SCP, Dan has many other life goals and aspirations.
“My mother would love for me to be a doctor or a lawyer, find a nice Jewish girl, and settle down,” Rosenfield said. “While I can work with the nice Jewish girl part, I would like to pursue a career in the fascinating world of bribery, I mean politics. Our current slate of politicians, whether they be in Plano, Austin, or Washington have no clue what the word public service truly means. I would like to restore that honestly and good faith that should come with political office and put the trust back into the American people.”
Rosenfield was one of four candidates for the SCP position, all with wildly different campaigns. The other candidates included Danielle Smith, Frank Long and Clayton Horan.
“When I officially began my campaign, I had a dedicated group of very attractive supporters from all walks of life (and for the Cross Country guys who helped ‘runs’ of life) who campaigned before and after school, during lunches, and throughout the school day,” Rosenfield said. “We also used multiple forms of social media and just didn’t take the whole thing seriously. I had to be unique from the other candidates. I had a video unlike the others (except everyone’s has a Walmart reference). I stood on a street corner, and tried to connect and meet as many students as I could.”
Each of the four candidates also had their own reasons for wanting to become the next SCP.
“The big idea was that I just wanted students to get excited about our school and have more pride for the good ol’ blue and black,” Rosenfield said. “This starts with an effective SCP. I knew West needed someone who could get the student population pumped and excited. I also really want to the class of 2013 to know that they have someone who will, with all their might, work and speak on their behalf when it comes to both campus and federal issues.”
Rosenfield plans to make the majority of his decisions next year based on the following quote. “”I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one heck of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.” – E.B. White.
