Lights, camera, action are three words being used more and more in the Big D. Recently, more shows have started to use Dallas to shoot their shows. Shows like Dallas, The A List: Dallas, Donna Decorates Dallas, Top Chef: Texas, Most Eligible Dallas, Big Rich Texas and the popular new NBC show, GCB.
“It’s cool that so many shows film in Dallas,” junior Evan Remmele said.
NBC’s brand new show, GCB has become a huge hit. Starring Kristin Chenoweth the show concentrates on a wealthy Dallas suburb where drama is ever-present. When Amanda Vaughn, played by Leslie Bibb, returns home after her marriage ends in scandal she is not accepted by the rest of the community who knew her as a ‘mean girl’ from her high school days. The show focuses on the crazy drama that is created by Vaughn’s return. The show is set and filmed in Dallas.
“GCB is so much fun to watch, there’s all of that ridiculous drama and it makes it really amusing,” junior Kamilla Rahman said. “The only bad part about GCB is that people think that Dallas is really like that but it’s not.”
Dallas originally came on in the late 1970’s; the show is being brought back by TNT. TNT is updating the show but keeping the storyline the same. The show will follow J.R. Ewings son, John Ross Ewing III, and Bobby Ewings adopted son, Christopher Ewing, but many of the original characters will be returning to the show. TNT is filming Dallas in the Big D.
“My parents watched Dallas back when it first came on TV and they fell in love with it,” junior Bryson Smiley said. “They’re excited that TNT is putting it back on the air. I hope it’s just as good as the original.”
Junior Zakk Myer has appeared in one of these shows. Myers is on Big Rich Texas. Big Rich Texas is filmed in the Dallas area and follows five wealthy women and their daughters during the summer and shows all of the drama that goes on between the women. The show is currently in its second season. This show appears on Style Network.
“My mom and sister asked me if I wanted to do Big Rich Texas,” Myers said. “I enjoy it when there is free food involved.”
Donna Decorates Dallas follows Donna Moss, who was a HGTV Design Star finalist, as she decorates wealthy homes in Dallas. This show appears on HGTV. Top Chef: Texas is also filmed in Dallas. Top Chef appears on Bravo and follows contestants as they compete in culinary challenges to become the top chef. Most Eligible Dallas also appears on Bravo and follows young, wealthy and single socialites who are looking for a good time. The A List: Dallas follows five gay men and one woman as they party in Dallas. The show airs on Logo.
“There are so many shows being filmed in Dallas,” junior Ramsey Gazal said. “But I think the only show I’ll actually watch will be Dallas. The rest sound too dramatic for me.”
