With summer right around the corner many are planning fun and exciting things to do like going to concerts. This summer there are a number of bands coming to the Dallas area such as Coldplay, One Direction, LMFAO, Rascal Flatts, Big Time Rush and more. There will also be concert festivals like Warped Tour, Rockstar Energy Mayhem and The Global Warming Tour.
“I was looking forward to seeing One Direction this summer,” junior Andrea Javier said. “Unfortunately I was unable to get my ticket but I am very excited for the Big Time Rush concert and I might go with my friend to Warped Tour.”
Even before school is over there will be many upcoming concerts. On May 12 Miranda
Lambert will be performing at Gexa Energy Center. Four days later, May 16, Drake will be playing at the Gexa Energy Center with J-Cole and Waka Flocka. Following Drake, Scott McCurry will be playing at the Cambridge Room in The House of Blues on May 18.
“I am really looking forward to the Drake concert,” junior Katherine Haven said. “I am going to with some friends. However I do wish it was in the summer, that way I would not have to worry about school the next day.”
To start the summer off, on the last day of school June 1, Nickelback will be doing a concert at the American Airline Center. On June 15 LMFAO and Far East Movement will be rocking Dallas at the American Airlines Center. Coldplay will be having two concerts, one on June 22 and the other on June 23 at the American Airlines Center.
Another band many are looking forward to is One Direction. They will be performing at the Gexa Energy Pavilion on June 23. This concert is so anticipated by many that it sold out within minutes. Hundreds of fans were upset they were unable to get tickets, but have hope that One Direction will do another United States tour soon.
The annual Warped Tour will be held at Gexa Energy Pavilion on July 3. This year popular bands such as All Time Low, We The Kings, Mayday Parade and many more will be performing. This will be the 18th annual summer Warped Tour festival. It began in 1995 and every year since then it has featured over 100 bands per show with a diversity of genres. Warped Tour has become so increasingly popular that this year they are expanding it to Europe.
“I love All Time Low and I have been wanting to see them for years now,” junior Gabby Cardenas said. “I cannot wait for Warped Tour, not just because of All Time Low but because of all the other great bands.”
On July 10 the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival will be held at the Gexa Energy Center. The festival will feature Slipknot, The Devil Wears Prada, Anthrax and more. Three days later, July 13, Rascal Flatts will also be playing at the Gexa Energy Center. They will be playing new songs from their new CD Changed, as well as playing old songs from previous CDs.
“The Rockstar Mayhem Festival will be the highlight of my summer,” junior Jacob Mira said. “I love all the bands that will be playing and I am excited to hear them perform.”
Last but not least, to finish off the summer, Big Time Rush will have a concert on July 14 at the Gexa Energy Center. It will be their Big Time Summer Tour and Cody Simpson will be opening for them.
“I have a huge crush on Carlos,” Javier said. “I wish I could have gotten VIP tickets but knowing I will be within miles of them is fine, I love them and their music.”
With so many bands coming to the Dallas area this summer those who plan on staying here will have plenty to do. Concerts are always fun to go to but when there is school the next day it can be a hassel.
“I have at least two concerts planned with friends this summer,” Haven said. “Warped Tour and Coldplay will make it a summer to remember, I cannot wait.”
