With so many great Advanced Placement classes being offered it can be hard to decide whether or not taking one is the right decision for you. It is easy to paint a picture in your head of how an AP class differs from an honors or regular class. Most people think of an AP class as hard, stressful, full of pop quizzes, readings, endless homework and impossible tests, but the truth is that an AP class only requires you to think a little bit more than you would in a regular or honors class and also apply what you know with what you are learning. When deciding whether or not an AP class is the right thing for you, consider all the benefits the class has to offer you.
Not only do AP classes prepare you for college level classes, but they also bump up your grade point average, expose you to higher levels of thinking and can help knock off a semester or two in college. When deciding which classes to take and the difficulty level of each, strongly consider taking an AP class especially in a subject you enjoy or are good in. If there is a particular class you enjoy and tend to succeed in, you are more likely to thrive at the AP level. In May, when the time comes for College Board AP Exams, if you score higher than a three, many colleges will count that class as a credit, thus helping you save money or giving you more room in your college schedule.
Not many people like to even think about taking an AP class, but it never hurts to give it a try. Taking an Advanced Placement class will help you in so many different ways. It will help make your transition to college much easier because you will already be thinking at a higher level and will know what to expect. Colleges like to see that a student challenges himself and does not just go with the flow. There are so many AP classes to choose from allowing you to be one step ahead and help you better your future. You should really take advantage of it.
