Color is taking over spring with a vengeance this year as different colored jeans begin to dominate in department stores. Made for children, teens and adults of both genders, this is a trend that everyone can take part in. The title of blue jeans takes on a new meaning with retail stores bringing in pants that come in all varying colors of the rainbow.
“I was really excited when I found out that colored jeans were back in style,” junior Mutinta Mutuma said. “They have a way of pulling together any outfit I choose to wear.”
Well-known stores, such as JC Penney, Forever 21, Wet Seal and Hot Topic, are displaying their colorful apparel for shoppers at locations everywhere. However, this is not the first time colored pants have made an appearance in the fashion world. From acid-washed in the 1980s to tartan patterns in the following decade, jeans have experienced a lot of change in history. Colored jeans first exploded inAsiawith a South Korean boy band SHINee in 2008 and a South Korean girl group called Girl’s Generation one year later.
“A lot of my favorite stores have started selling these pants again recently,” junior Bethany Mawoko said. “I think it is really cool that they actually started trending inAsia.”
This trend has been vacillating in and out of the world of fashion for years since its debut and is currently in the midst of another resurgence. Numerous celebrities have recently been spotted donning the new style by paparazzi and fans. Ashley Greene, Khloe Kardashian and Fergie are just a few of the stars that have been spotted wearing pants of varying hues.
“I like to see how my favorite celebrities match their clothes to get ideas for my own wardrobe,” Mutuma said. “The really fashion-savvy stars are always one step ahead of the latest trend.”
Jeans of assorted shades are not solely made for women; men can also take part in this new style if they so desire. Big in both theUnited KingdomandUnited States, men can buy pants in colors like red, green, yellow and many more. One guy that is leading men in the trend is singer/songwriter Justin Bieber.
“I like red and white jeans the most,” senior Eduardo Montemayor said. “The fact that both girls and guys can wear colored jeans is great because it offers greater variety and diversity.”
Color blocking is facilitated through the use of these colorful pants when paired with bright tops and shoes. These contrasting shades make a bold statement and can brighten anyone’s day with just one glance. A simple outfit of jeans and a t-shirt can be enhanced with the strategic pairing of one’s favorite colors.
“I love color blocking my outfits every day for school,” Mawoko said. “Colored jeans look good and are a great way to add some variety to your day.”
