Designer products, in my opinion, are not worth it. They are not only a waste of money, but they also take away the personal elements of having a style. People become so focused on brand names that they forget what they are actually going to look for, and only pick the item based on designers. They lose individuality, and uniqueness.
People should not base their lives around the lives of celebrities. They are very different from average people, and if they appear to only wear designer clothing and items, it could be due to the fact that it was loaned to them, or gifted. People need to realize that they are defined by their actions, not by what they wear.
If people choose to purchase outrageously priced items based on style, they should stop and remember that style evolves and changes. It does not stay consistent, so it is probably not as smart to spend a large amount of money on something that is only going to be trendy and stylish for a couple of years.
If the argument is that designer items are a good investment because of the longevity aspect, stop and consider how many pairs of shoes have actually been worn for 20 years. Chances are, you are going to get extremely tired of that pair of shoes before you have had them for that long. It would make more sense to buy a variety of more reasonably priced shoes that you could still wear for a long time, just maybe not quite as extreme of a time.
Lastly, just because something is high priced, it does not always guarantee quality. There are people that make clothing items and accessories that are not as well-known as major designers that also make nice and high quality things for a much lower price. The term designer does not really mean anything anyway, as everything is technically designed by someone. So basically when you pay a much higher price for something “designer,” you are basically just paying for the person’s name.
So therefore, in my opinion, designer products are not worth the money. While it is every person’s own business as to what they would like to spend their money on, I believe that people should think a little bit more carefully before they purchase designer items.
