This is the season for awards; from January to June, celebrities are awarded for their work throughout the year. Movies, music, TV- there is an award for them all. From the VMAs to the Oscars, actors, singers, directors and producers are awarded for their hard work.
“Even if I do not always agree with them, the Oscars are by far my favorite awards show,” senior Danny Goodwin said.
The awards season gets a lot of attention not only from the nominees but from the celebrities’ extravagant outfits. Every year, the dresses and suits become more and more spectacular. The performances are also awe-inspiring.
“Outfits and performances are my favorite part of the shows,” junior Katherine Kimmey said.
For people who do not care as much for fashion or performances, the actual awards are what they look forward to. The main awards for the Oscars are Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Actress.
“I love the awards because I love seeing the funny and sad speeches that artists give,” junior Ellen Piazza said.
The biggest award show is the Oscars. This year the nominees for best picture are “The Artist,” “The Descendants,” “Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close,” “The Help,” “War Horse,” “Hugo,” “Midnight In Paris,” “Moneyball” and “The Tree of Life.”
“I want “Midnight In Paris” to win Best Picture,” Goodwin said.
For Best Actor the nominations are George Clooney, Demian Bichir, Jean Dujardin, Gary Oldman and Brad Pitt. For Best Actress, Glenn Close, Viola Davis, Rooney Mara, Meryl Streep and Michelle Williams are nominated. Goodwin predicts the winners for Best Actor and Best Actress.
“For Best Actor, George Clooney and for Best Actress, Rooney Mara,” Goodwin said.
The Oscars are the biggest award show, but they are not the only one. The Grammys are the biggest for musicians and the VMAs showcase this year’s hottest performances and videos.
“The Grammys are my personal favorite because I love being introduced to new musicians who I end up loving, like Mumford & Sons,” Piazza said.
The award season is glamorous and thrilling due to the sight of the celebrities dressed in beautiful gowns and suits, watching the acceptance speeches and the looks on their faces when they receive an award for their work. The award shows allow both the viewer and the performer to be captivated, hoping that they or their favorite nominee will win.
“I’m really passionate about movies, so a night that celebrates them is always exciting,” Goodwin said. “No matter for how long it goes on.”
