Fall is here and students proceed to fill up their wardrobes with the latest fashion trends. Twenty one years ago the fashion industry was blowing up with punk, rock and retro fashions. It has once again become the time of the eighties. This year’s fall fashion has really been taken to the next step of change. Fashion designers have managed to mix eighties punk grunge with a mellow, bohemian, indie look, and the best part is that all the popular stores are available with the looks of the season.
“I would say the label for this fall fashion is Indie, pointing more towards the Urban Outfitters look,” junior Savannah Edwards said.
Many stores have taken the transformation of going back in time to the eighties and offer all the top styles that are the look of the season.
“I love Urban Outfitters, Buffalo Exchange and Pacsun,” junior Mika Campbell said. “They keep their style updated to meet the eighties retro style of this season.”
Urban Outfitters has always been a reliable store to go to get the latest trends. Thrift stores have become a big hit amongst many teens and offer good prices for the vintage retro looks that everyone is looking for. This season is all about layers, high waists and mixing colors. Pants, shorts and skirts have gone from hips to high waists. Pair them with a button down blouse or a retro cut-off shirt. Hats are in too, especially fedoras. High waist jeans with wide leg flares can be paired with some giant pumps. If it is a casual day, wear some high skinny jeans with oxfords. Grandma sweaters with different patterns are a perfect way to block the shivers that are coming from the cool winds of the fall.
“My favorite styles for the fall are color blocking and polka dots,” senior Ember Lewis said. “Both looks are simple, but eye catching at the same time. They cater to a wider range of age groups so that everyone can enjoy these trends, and I have also got to love the fact that they are both trends from the sixties.”
Not only has this season interpreted the times of the eighties but fashion designers have also managed to tie in looks from the sixties and seventies.
Recently a new label of style has been passed around. In the past, fashion was labeled more simply like hippie or grunge. The collaboration of all the different styles of this season have come together to be called hipster. It’s time to set out and get ready for the fall. Individuality is key this season, and anyone can make anything look good.
“Everybody just wants to look like a hipster.” junior Mika Campbell said.
