For the lacrosse team, the 2015-2016 school year means fresh players, an altered team dynamic and a new senior class stepping up to take charge and lead the team to victory. Together, the boys are prepared to adjust to the tempo of the upcoming season and meet their competition with unfaltering determination.

“This year, our team dynamic has definitely shifted as we have a smaller senior class leading the team,” senior Andrew Brown said. “This means that we have a lot of underclassmen stepping up to fill key roles and replacing those who graduated last year.”

Though the loss of the 2015 seniors has left these new players and underclassmen with big shoes to fill, they are rising to the challenge with dedication.

“Along with adjusting to the loss of the senior class, we’ve also had to adjust to the varying playing styles of new team members,” senior Patrick Spillman said. “Although it was a big adjustment, the phenomenal effort that the new players have been putting forth has made it so much easier.”

Junior Nick Arvin, who is one of many returning players to take on a larger role this season, expects the fresh outlook and brazen ingenuity of up and coming younger players to have a substantial impact on the season’s turnout.

“We have a young group of guys who really want to get after it and prove to a lot of people that we are a legitimate contender this year,” Arvin said. “With everyone’s combined efforts, we have a chance at making the playoffs, beating Plano and bringing home a State championship.”

The team is willing to put in as much work as possible to defeat every rival they face throughout the journey that is the 2015-2016 season. However, winning games is not the only thing that matters to the lacrosse program. Beyond the scoreboard, creating a legacy and building their organization from the ground up is a mission that the team keeps close to heart.

“Winning State is important to us, but our ultimate goal is to make everyone a better player by the end of the year and establish a basis for our program to grow on,” Brown said. “I look forward to seeing everyone improve as the year progresses.”

The best thing that results from being on a team like this one is not a State trophy, but the enduring friendships that are forged on and off the field.

“As a team, we look out after each other,” Spillman said. “We push each other around while also pushing each other to be the best that we can be.”
