Football Stands Tall with Pride

It is time to fall into football season and be a part of the teams’ upcoming victories. Individually, the team members have a lot on their plates, but together, they are ready and have big goals set for this year.
“Our goals this year are to win district and have a great season,” Varsity quarterback Logan Williams said.
The team has many games scheduled for the season and they plan to practice and improve their skills each day.
“We improved a lot this year.” senior Tanner Harmon said.”We became a family and grew very close to one another.”
Throughout the summer to this school year, the team has held many practices that consist of various workouts that help better their game on the field.
“Practices involve throwing footballs, running good routes and various blocking schemes that we work on,” Williams said.
While spending large amounts of time with each other, the team created a strong friendship that later developed into a firm bond.
“The team as a whole is very close,” junior Mohamed Sanogo said. “We are one big family. All of us work together and try to push each other harder and get better every day.”
To play in front of a huge crowd with the Hype chanting for the team is one of the differences between varsity and junior varsity.
“Varsity is a huge difference from Junior Varsity because everyone is bigger and faster,” Harmon said.”The experience of being under the lights on Friday nights with all of the school watching is amazing.”
Being a junior on Varsity is not particularly rare, but being on Varsity since freshman year is not as common. Being a part of the team for a long time can be sentimental.
“Being on Varsity since my freshman year is awesome,” Sanogo said. “As a junior on Varsity I get to be with them team throughout the day. Football has become a bigger part of my school days from the numerous amounts of meetings to seeing my football friends in the halls.”
Through all 13 games played during the year, the players have memories of special moments that will stick with them for a long time.
“My favorite memory was when West was losing to Sachse.” Sanogo said,”In the third quarter I looked around at the players and no one had their head down; everyone was ready to play. Then, I looked around in the stands and saw that the student section was going crazy. In that moment, I knew I played for the best team in the nation.
