Running to Victory

Track and field has high hopes for finishing the season strong

The track and field Wolves have been working to make this season their best one yet. Their goal this year is to have the best season possible. The team aims to work together in order to hopefully bring home victories and get the student section excited for future meets to come. This year’s team is determined to do well this season and are hungry to come out on top at all of the meets they attend.

“Everybody gets motivated at the meets because they really want to do better than they did at the last meet, and they also want to beat the other team,” junior varsity runner junior Elizabeth Benton said. “Everybody just wants to improve and get faster and be better. It’s amazing to watch, actually.”

The team is committed to continue their winning streak and win the district championship.

“The goal to win district and complete a 3-peat for district champs motivates the team to do well,” junior varsity runner junior Bennett Dubrow said.

The team has been doing especially well this year, setting new records and continuing to make a good name for West.

“West has just recently made two personal school records on our Distance Medley Relay (DMR) team, and our 4×800 team,” varsity runner senior Cord Miller said.  “And we set the school record by at least ten seconds.”

The Hype has not made a large appearance at track meets since meets are held early in the morning. However, The Hype is encouraged to go out and support track and field even if you only show up for certain events.

“We have actually talked about having The Hype at meets,” Benton said. “We want The Hype present because everybody says they like having more people there to cheer you on. Just because track isn’t the most exciting or most popular sport doesn’t mean we wouldn’t want some hype.”
