Ladies Stepping Up to the Plate
A new softball season begins for the Lady Wolves
Spring has finally arrived, and that can only mean one thing: it is time for the softball season. The Lady Wolves have spent the past several months practicing in order to set themselves up for a deep playoff run. Countless hours together on and off the field have helped them form a good team dynamic.
“We have done a lot of team bonding activities, so it is great to spend time with everyone at practices,” senior Kelly Burke said. “We want to win, but we have so much team chemistry that we just have fun together on the field. The win doesn’t matter if you are not playing as a team.”
Forming a strong bond early in the season has been top priority, and making this last all season is important if they want to do well in the playoffs.
“I think that when people have good chemistry, they are more comfortable and play better together,” Burke said. “If I wasn’t comfortable and didn’t know the other players well, I wouldn’t be able to play to my ability.”
Senior Lauren Lloyd also cites chemistry as one of the main reasons that the softball team will be successful this season.
“It is great to be a part of something like this with your friends,” Lloyd said. “We are together a lot. I love my team, and I love spending time with them.”
Lloyd had a good time during the preseason tournaments, but she really enjoys the higher stakes of regular season games.
“We went to Austin and Round Rock, which was really fun,” Lloyd said. “It is a lot more competitive during the regular season than it is during the preseason scrimmages and tournaments though.”
As a senior, Burke is looking to make the most of her final year on the team.
“It is my last year,” Burke said, “so I really want to win and this the best season yet.”
The softball team will look to take this winning mentality and strong chemistry and turn it into a successful season.
“We respect each other,” Lloyd said.” You are not playing for yourself. You are playing for the team.”
