Leader of the Wolf Pack
New senior class president Parker Ragle talks about his new responsibilities and the plans he has in store for the upcoming school year

He has beaten Dirk Nowitzki in knockout. He knows the first 100 digits of pi. He even co-coaches a youth basketball team. Who is this, you ask? None other than this year’s Senior Class President (SCP), Parker Ragle.
Ragle has many responsibilities, including acting as the liaison between the students and faculty to keep people informed, serving as the emcee of pep rallies, planning the reunion for the class of 2015, leading the President’s Council of all sports and clubs and much more.
“You’re always busy,” Ragle said. “You always have something to work on, which is nice and bad. You’re not staring at the wall or refreshing your twitter feed, you’re just working on something, which I enjoy.”
This is not Ragle’s first time in a leadership position either. He has plenty of experience that translates to his duties as SCP. He has been president of his Young Men’s Service League chapter and the vice president of National Honor Society. But one does not reach the position of SCP without an abundance of creativity and work.
“I had a lot of help,” Ragle said. “One of my good friends made my campaign posters. What I did was have iconic movie posters with my face photo shopped onto them. That helped a lot. And then I had a lot of backing from teachers and friends. I was the only candidate running from American Studies and so that’s a huge demographic. I had a friend, an awesome video editor, and he made my video.”
It can be hard to remember that being a leader is so much more than funny campaign posters and winning the votes of classmates.
“I think probably one of the most important leadership qualities is not only having responsibility but taking responsibility for things,” Student Congress president Ethan Wright said. “You kind of choose how much you get done as a leader and he chooses to take on everything that he can, and everything he chooses to put upon himself to accomplish and to make this school a better place.”
Of the many opportunities presented to the SCP, Ragle is very excited about beginning new Wolfpack traditions, such as the Senior Sunrise at the beginning of the year and the Senior Sunset at the end of the year.
“I’m supposed to do something to help leave my legacy at Plano West,” Ragle said. “Ethan and I want to start some traditions this year. Just different things, small or big, to make a difference and have people 20 years down the road remember. I think the Senior Sunrise was a huge success, but there were a lot of things we could’ve done better with it. I think down the line it can only get better.”
Despite his around-the-clock duties as SCP, Ragle still finds time to do what he loves most: play basketball.
“Parker is married to the game,” Wright said “Ball is life.”
Ragle has many serious responsibilities, and basketball is something he uses to let off steam.
“I coach a basketball team, I play on a rec team, I love to go to the park and just shoot around,” Ragle said.
At the end of the day, Parker Ragle has one priority: the Plano West student body.
“I feel that the class of 2015 has so much to offer Plano West,” Ragle said.
