Goals for the season

The football team was only a couple of games away from winning the UIL State championships last year. This year, they have high expectations and hope to compete for a title again.
“The team this year looks very promising.” head coach Mike Hughes said. “We weren’t as good at this point last season but we got better as the season progressed.”
The football team is coming into the 2013-2014 season with new quarterback junior Robert Colmery, who is replacing last year’s quarterback, alumnus Travis Kory.
“Both Travis and Robert are leaders,” Hughes said. “Robert is more of an operator and thrower.”
The team is practicing hard, with a common goal in mind: to make it to the State finals and prove to everyone that it is where they belong. They have many returning juniors and seniors who will help them reach their goal.
“Our expectations this season are to make it to Cowboys Stadium in December,” senior Cody Arledge said. “We have all trained too hard not to.”
Pumping up the crowd and players is also a factor in the number of wins the Wolves will get this year. The cheerleaders practice all week to perfect their techniques for each game.
“I think the cheers we do really get the crowd in the game and get them hyped, which in turn hypes up the football players,” cheerleader Jonee Winder said.
The team goes through a lot, bonding together and becoming stronger as a team in the process, making them harder to beat.
“My favorite part about being a varsity football player is being with the team,”Arledge said. “We have become so close and see each other as a family.
With expectations for this year higher than they were last year, the team has a lot to prove, but with loyal fans and the teamwork they put in every day, this season will be one to remember.
“I think this will be our year to win State,” Winder said. “I am so proud of all the players. They are playing well and they need to keep up the good work.”
