The girls basketball team has been training and the Lady Wolves are ready to dominate. They are ranked number 11 in the state, and are ranked number 100 in the national rank. The team is made up of dedicated athletes that try their hardest every day to lead the team to victory in district.
“We’ve been practicing really hard every day,” junior Grace Horn said. “Our goal is to go to State and we keep that goal in mind each day we step out on the court.”
Winning require work and the Lady Wolves know it. During their practices, the girls run and sweat knowing that winning State is almost in their reach.
“We practice five days a week from 6:45 to 9:30 in the morning,” Horn said. “Our coach is extremely tough on us, but it is only because he wants us to be the best we can possibly be.”
Coach Don Patterson has coached the girls basketball team for six years, but he is sure that with the team he has to work with this year, they are definitely winners.
“We defeated Rockwall on Monday Nov. 7, 65-54,” Patterson said. “The girls are working very hard and we are expecting a very successful season.”
Patterson knows the girls capabilities and pushes them to strive for victory.
“The coach has been insanely tough on us but it’s definitely worth it,” senior Kiran Lakhian said. “I know we’re going to win State.”
Many of the players on the team are planning to continue playing basketball for college.
“Almost everyone on the team has aspirations of playing in college,” Horn said.
The girls are all very talented and are planning to play for only the best of schools.
“We have some girls who are planning to play in college, but they have not decided where they will go,” Patterson said.
One of the teams own, Kiran Lakhian, is deliberating between a few colleges to play basketball for next year, including Columbia and Stanford.
“I am definitely playing for college next year,” Lakhian said. “I am just not completely sure where yet.”
The Lady Wolves are confident that their hard work, determination and practice will lead to victory.
“We have a great chance of winning this year,” Horn said. “We have won District the last three years and want to keep that streak going. We look forward to having more people come out and support us at our games this season.”
