Teacher Feature: John Scott

Mr.John Scott

Whitney Patterson, Staff Writer

What is your favorite part of teaching?

“I enjoy having the ability to help students gain an understanding of the world and having the ability to encourage and inspire them to better fulfill their own goals and desires.”

Do you enjoy teaching economics or American Studies (AMSTUD) more?

“I enjoy them both equally. They’re different; AMSTUD allows students to use their own creativity and collaborate whereas economics is a defined course where the answers are generally more concrete. They’re different courses, but I enjoy them both.”

What is one interesting fact about you?

“I am an original Plano West Wolf. I started teaching here in 1999 when the school opened. There are about 10 of us left.”

If you were not teaching, what would you be?

“I would need to have a job that allows me to help or serve others in some fashion or form. I would have liked to be a fireman. I would have also enjoyed being a public servant in the government because I could use that as an avenue to help others.”

Do you have any advice for students?

“Pursue what you love and pursue excellence and you will be rewarded by excelling in whatever you pursue.”

If you could time travel to one era in history, what would it be and why?

“I would love to time travel to the future! In past American history though, the 1920s Jazz Age is an intriguing, dynamic era.”
