On Feb 11., Mr. West, the school’s annual male pageant show, will be held in order to raise money for various charities. Ten seniors will perform different acts and entertain the crowd to achieve the title of “Mr. West” and win money for the charity of their choosing.

“The whole reason of Mr. West is to present charities in a fun way,” senior Paolo Adorable said. “We get to do a talent portion and a group dance. The money you buy the tickets with, no matter if you win or lose, will be donated to your charity.”

The Student Council (STUCO) is in charge of putting the event together. The pageant is supposed to be an entertaining occasion that brings attention to various charities and is a chance for students to become aware of various organizations that help their community.

“Overall it’s for a really good cause,” Adorable said. “I feel a lot charities don’t get as much attention as they should, especially at the high school level.”

Each contestant selects a charity that is important to them. Senior Erik Daniels, who is representing the Alphas, the school’s spirit group, has chosen a charity that has impacted his family closely.

“I am representing Susan G. Komen for the Cure,” Daniels said. “I chose this charity because my Nana fought breast cancer and it’s a great organization.”

Senior Falak Fahim is representing the track team. The charity he picked is a tutoring company that goes around to low income areas and tutors kids that are less fortunate than others.

“I am representing 10 Books,” Fahim said. “I knew I wanted to make an impact locally before I branch out in the future, and that is why I chose this specific charity.”

While Fahim chose his charity based off his love for books, Adorable, the orchestra representative in the contest, chose his charity due to his love for animals.

“I’m choosing Operation Kindness, because I’m a big animal person and it has a good mission statement,” Adorable said. “Just like humans, a lot of animals are put in situations that are difficult for them and Operation Kindness help minimize their hardships.”

The show will be at 7 p.m.in the auditorium and tickets will be five dollars. Each contestant has committed a lot of time to prepare each act and is thrilled to be a part of the contest.

“A lot of the guys are different, so it’s going to really fun,” Adorable said. “Every single act and performance will be a different personality and a different person. It’s going to be really exciting and I hope everyone comes.”
