Royales Prepare For 10th Upcoming Spring Show

Taking a break from practicing on stage for spring show, the Royales pose for a team photo.
Buy a ticket in the foyer and watch the Plano West Royales thrive on stage April 7-9. The Royales will be hosting their spring show in the auditorium. For many years, the Royales have kept the tradition of showcasing the dances they have learned throughout the year on stage. To help capture the audience’s attention, the performances coordinate with that year’s theme
Along with their theme, celebration, the seniors and juniors on the team have special dances to perform. To recognize the seniors who will be leaving the team, the show includes the seniors saying their final goodbye.
“The junior and senior dances haven’t been in show for a few years,” senior line officer Scarlett Killeen said. “On the last night of show, the seniors hang up their hats on a huge star and say goodbye to the team.”
The audience should expect various groups of dancing throughout the show. From large team dances with all 54 girls to officer dances with only 5 dancers, there is a lot to see.
“We have more routines than ever this year,” Killeen said. “Since our theme is celebration, the audience should expect a party on stage.”
Spring show is a memorable event for the team. The show demonstrates what they have been doing almost all year and allows the members of the team to unite and appreciate the great year they spent together.
“Spring show means all of our hard work has finally paid off,” Killeen said. “It’s so great to have everyone see what we’ve accomplished over the year because what we do at show is very different than what we do during football season.”
Having solid time management is a quality that the girls utilize during spring show season. Making sure each performer is on stage and fully ready for the upcoming dance is a challenge the girls could face.
“Our biggest challenge that arises while preparing for the show would be handling the number of routines we perform,” senior and captain Manda Varner said. “As captain, I’m in many dances and each dance takes a lot of time to clean.”
The Royales have spent a copious amount of time getting ready for their spring show.
“We have been practicing for spring show since November,” Varner said. “Getting all of our costumes and hair pieces ordered are some of the ways we are getting prepared.”
The Royales practice three hours every day during the school week along with a few practices on weekends. Director Kari Watson and Assistant Director Ashleyanne Thornhill have been helping the girls practice by critiquing the dances and making sure that every aspect of the show will look perfect.
“We have been working hard and are very focused on perfecting the show,” junior line officer Emily Zekany said. “Practices can sometimes be a little tough, but by the end of the show, we all know our hard work will have paid off.”
