Art Students Exhibit Talent
December 10, 2015
On Dec. 7, the Sockwell Center held Plano Independent School District’s Fall Art Exhibit. The exhibit contained artwork from various students all over PISD. Senior Alexander Cruz, senior Josh Jordan and senior Ava Nazary are among the many students who represented the school. Having the chance to present artwork in a gallery is a rare opportunity. This made Jordan’s feat of representing West with his project all the more important.
“I was pretty excited and surprised when I found out,” Jordan said. “I feel honored that I was chosen.”
Each art teacher pulled different projects from the enrolled students. Teachers can pick from any of the student’s artwork from prior six weeks.
“I didn’t have to do any certain requirements,” senior Alexander Cruz said. “I just had to submit my artwork to my art teacher.”
The students would work during their art period to further construct or start their projects. Each six weeks, the art teachers would assign their students one to two art projects.
“It took me about two to three weeks to make my project,” Jordan said. “During that time I would work and perfect my piece.”
Nazary’s invitation to the exhibit was personal. Working continuously and diligently on her project helped Nazary get recognized by her Art II teacher.
“After I turned my art piece in, Mr. Daracott asked if he could use the artwork to be one of the students that represent West at the exhibit,” Nazary said.
For Cruz, taking art has helped him put his thoughts into artwork and strengthen his creativity.
“One of my favorite things about art is how I can portray my feelings through numerous styles,” Cruz said. “It helps open my mind to creativity and relieve stress.”
