Synco, Sun, Flowers, Fun

On May 21 at 7:00 p.m., Syncopation and Rhapsody will be holding their annual Spring Garden Show outside by the school fountain. This is the time when Syncopation and Rhapsody students show off their vocal skills and perform in a casual environment.

“People bring blankets and picnics, and it is a lot of fun,” choir director Sarah Council said. “It’s a very informal and laid-back concert.”

Even though the show is non-competitive in retrospect, students still rehearse to prepare for the event.

“Every day during class we have been practicing our songs and getting new music,” senior Miranda Garcia said.

Syncopation and Rhapsody sing modern-day songs in an a cappella style. They have planned a variety of songs to perform.

“A lot of times we have students that arrange things,” Council said. “Sarah Bronchetti is part of the group, and she’s an awesome arranger, and so she has already arranged a Coldplay song for the group. Donald Fielding, another member of the group and another great arranger, has arranged ‘Pompeii’ for the group. Basically, we sing pop songs or top 40 songs and arrange them to fit the voices in the group.”

With all the different people in Syncopation and Rhapsody, it is a fun time for the two choirs to come together to make this show successful and fun.

“We have new people, and as a senior, it’s fun to sing with the juniors,” senior Jessenia Ingram said. “There are new voices and styles. That’s one thing that is really great about specialty groups like this.”

Members of each specialty group look forward to a variety of different things at the show each year.

“I am looking forward to singing with my friends, enjoying the warm weather, and enjoying my last performance at Plano West,” Garcia said.

A big thing is making sure that the audience enjoys the performances just as much as the two choirs enjoy performing for them.

“I just want the audience to have a good time,” Council said. “It’s the end of the year, and it is always a great wrap-up.”
